Quartz Yarn
Introducing of quartz yarn
Material:
Continuous fiber yarn is made from silicon dioxide (SiO2) (purity usually ≥99.9%) as raw material through high-temperature melting, drawing and other processes.
- Monofilament yarn (single fibers twisted together)
- Multifilament yarn (multiple fibers twisted together)
- Twisted/untwisted yarn (adjusted according to process requirements)
2. Advantages
1. High temperature resistance:
- The long-term use temperature can reach 1200℃~1600℃ (melting point is about 1700℃), and it will not burn or deform at high temperatures.
2. Low thermal conductivity:
- Low thermal conductivity (about 0.04 W/(m·K)), suitable for high temperature insulation scenarios.
3. Chemical stability:
- Resistant to corrosion by acids, alkalis and organic solvents (except hydrofluoric acid and hot phosphoric acid).
4. Electrical insulation:
- High resistivity (>10¹⁵ Ω·cm), suitable for high frequency and high voltage insulation materials.
5. Lightweight and toughness:
- Low density (approximately 2.2 g/cm³), can be woven into complex structures.
3. Main application areas
1. High temperature protection and insulation
Industrial furnace lining: woven into insulation blankets and casings, used for linings of metallurgical and ceramic kilns.
Fireproof material: used to make fire-fighting clothing and fire-proof curtains, with flame retardant properties superior to traditional glass fiber.
2. Aerospace and military industry
Composite reinforcement: compounded with resin/ceramic matrix to manufacture high temperature resistant structural parts (such as missile fairings).
Thermal protection system: used for spacecraft heat shield and engine nozzle insulation layer.
3. Electronics and Communications
High-frequency substrate: As the substrate of high-frequency circuit, it reduces signal loss.
Optical fiber reinforcement: used to protect the outer layer of optical fiber and improve tensile strength.
4. Specialty Textiles
High temperature resistant fabrics: woven into fire blankets, high temperature filter bags (such as filter bags for waste incineration plants).
Protective clothing: Protective equipment for workers engaged in high-temperature operations such as welding and casting.
4. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between quartz yarn and glass fiber yarn?
A: Quartz yarn has higher temperature resistance (glass fiber usually has a temperature resistance of ≤600℃), higher purity, and better dielectric properties.
Q: Does quartz yarn break easily?
A: Quartz fiber is very brittle and needs to be avoided from excessive bending. Its flexibility can be improved by applying a wet coating (such as a silane coupling agent).
Q: How to clean quartz yarn products?
A: Use a soft brush to lightly brush away the dust on the surface, or use low-pressure airflow to clean, and avoid fiber damage caused by water washing.
5. Market and selection suggestions
Brand reference: Saint-Gobain from the United States, Nitto Boseki from Japan, CYS from China.
parameter:
- Fiber diameter (5~15 μm)
- Yarn count (e.g. 100 Tex, 200 Tex)
- Whether it contains wetting agent (affects subsequent composite processing).
Quartz yarn is a key material in high-end industry and technology due to its unique high temperature resistance and insulation properties. When selecting, it is necessary to combine the specific working conditions and the supplier's technical parameters!
